Let us start straight to our subject and explore the role of Development Diplomacy in the implementation of the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and other Sustainable-Development-related Global Governance agendas and agreements.
DD is part of a new diplomacy needed to address contemporary challenges and threats in support to collective actions, aiming sustainable global governance solutions and cooperation, (and to engage in new more inclusive forms of multilateralism and multi-actor coalitions and partnerships).
Development Diplomacy represents an evolving diplomatic practice in contemporary international cooperation, involving state and non-state actors furthering inclusive multilateral and multistakeholder collective problem solving and collaborative partnerships aiming sustainable development and peace at all levels of work and governance.
The achievement of the UN Agenda 2030 for sustainable development requires effective approaches to negotiate and implement transformative policies and practices that bring together diverse stakeholders from nations, subnational entities, civil society organizations, from the private sector and international organisations, to devise and implement shared sustainable solutions and fostering international cooperation and partnerships that match the scale and complexity of the SDG challenges. Herewith, we touch base with DD practice and approach.
In this regards, my challenge will be to show you during this introductory lecture the role and value added of DD by its inclusive, human rights based and systemic approach of sustainable development to further inclusive multilateral and multistakeholder collective action for sustainable development through shared commitments, agenda setting, negotiation of normative agreements and transformative policies and partnerships at the local and global level for the implementation, as of the UN Agenda 2030 and other Global governance arrangements aiming sustainable development and peace.
Therefore, I will focus this lecture onDD touching the following three major topics: ppt 2

And how DD may be applied by actors at global and local level to conduct inclusive cooperation, for the implementation of the SDGs and progress towards SD and peace. Followed by presenting a few concrete examples.
-
- Then, concluding on DD ‘s evolving practice to further inclusive sustainable development and peace, discussing as well critical challenges for DD and its future perspectives.
Afterwards, we will engage in a debate which focuses on the role of Development Diplomacy may play to further sustainable development and the prevention of conflicts and promotion of peaceful societies, as one of the key pillars of the UN Agenda 2030.
